Forward Thinking…

Happy [almost] weekend, everyone!

We’ve had a ridiculous amount bit of humidity this week and I for one am looking forward to the cool weather blowing in for the weekend. I mentioned to a friend on FB that we really were meant to live in Colorado, short afternoon rainstorms and warmish days with coolish nights sound perfect to me. But we live in Michigan where winter gives way to days of rain and then 80-degree, humid days. Alas…

I’m looking forward to many things this weekend, not just the weather…

  • Girl’s Night {In} with my college girlfriends, complete with cooking up five freezer meals for each of us. There are few things better than an evening spent with friends, especially friends you have known for almost 15 years (!). Plus I’ll be putting my boys to bed at the house we’re at so I don’t even have to pay a babysitter – double win!
  • Working on the yard… yes, it’s true. My husband should be purchasing mulch today and tomorrow I’ll be spreading it around and figuring out my plan for landscaping a little area behind the deck. I would like the yard to be a place I’d like to go and hang out, but currently I just go back there and see all the things I don’t like. Any recommendations for perennial plants that don’t take a lot of work but look pretty and go with hostas, daylillies and black eyed susans?
  • The last rugby game of the season… Simon coached this year and it has taken him away on a handful of Saturdays and while I’m glad he’s got this as an outlet (and that the team did great this year), I’m even more glad that it’s done until fall.
  • Maybe checking out Tulip Time in Holland, depends on the weather… we shall see. I’ve only gone to Tulip Time once and I didn’t actually attend as much as I rode in the truck pulling the float for Simon’s work. It seems almost sacrilegious to be Dutch and not have experienced it.
  • Sunday Night Date Night with the hubs… a new tradition that I am really loving! And finally there’s a movie we both are excited to see: Thor (despite Natlie Portman’s involvement, I think I’ll like it, does anyone else inexplicably NOT like her – please raise your hand). Now the big question is The Green Well, Red Ball Jet or Blue Water Grill for dinner, decisions…
  • My friend Steph is getting her youngest dedicated at church on Sunday and I am super excited to witness it!
  • Not doing the bedtime routine by myself (or at all on Sunday – babysitter, FTW!)
  • And I think my lilacs will soon be blooming… happy day!

And looking a little further ahead, things to look forward to for the summer:

  • Memorial Day weekend get-together with my Rooks girls AND all our families – always fun to get everyone together [and a lot bit sad to think we’ll be saying goodbye to Jonna as they’ll be leaving for South Africa in a month]
  • More trips to Meijer Gardens [it just occurred to me that Simon randomly renewed our membership there so he could get my Mother’s Day present, I can’t believe I didn’t figure it out at the time.]
  • Playdates galore…
  • U2 @ MSU – a concert we’ve been waiting for over a year since it was rescheduled from a year ago [and really I’ve been waiting for this since I was 14 and first fell in love with their music]
  • [Hopefully] a visit from our Texas family, if only we can convince the parents to rent a place in Holland again
  • Sara Bareilles concert at Meijer Gardens with two of my besties
  • Trips to the farmer’s market and heirloom tomato salads, flowers, basil for pesto and fresh-baked bread
  • Thursday walks with Sandy and her boys!

What are you looking forward to?

  1. I love your list of all positive and great things! And I love a girls night in with some of my favorite people; can’t wait–only 5 hours and 19 minutes. Not that I’ m counting or anything! I think I might just have to make my own list this afternoon. Love you!

  2. I’m looking forward to Thursday walks too! I really enjoy all three of you guys!

We just got a membership at FMG too this year. We’d love to meet you there for playdates too!

Natalie Portman: raises hand. I’m just not quite sure why, but I’m not a fan. Wierd?

    • I do not find it weird at all – she drives me nuts mostly because people think she is this fabulous actor and I think she is like cardboard, stiff and bland. We can also walk at FMG sometime and then reward the kids with playing in the Great Lakes 🙂

  3. Is it a requirement that you have date night at a restaurant with a color in the name? 🙂 Still loving the blog… and trying to figure out how you possibly have time to keep up with it- and follow 100 other blogs and sites- and blog about them!

    • I don’t sleep much 🙂 And I don’t clean or have to cook much since my husband is not home in the evenings 🙂 It’s amazing what you can get done with all that “free” time 😉 Oh my, that makes me sound awful – rest assured, I do play with my kids and feed them.
PS All the good restaurants have colors in the name 🙂 I didn’t even notice that, too funny!

  4. What restaurant did you pick? And I’m jealous about Sarah Bareilles. And clearly I’m catching up on your blog because I thought it was in my google reader and I was about to yell at you for stopping blogging then thought I should check first. Glad I did. Everything is back in working order now. 🙂
