Five Question Friday

Happy Friday everyone! So glad it’s a short week and so looking forward to going to Chicago for the weekend (well, the suburbs of Chicago for most of the weekend and then to the city for the DMB Caravan!! Whoot!).

Do you want to know what the favorite part of my day is? (Well most days except for today when it didn’t happen.) It’s first thing in the morning (which is crazy because I am NOT a morning person. But, most of the time, when I wake up, Simon’s already downstairs (he often wakes up very early and then goes downstairs to watch TV and snooze – I do not understand this as I never wake up before I need to and I would never get out of bed if I didn’t have it; instead I just take forever to actually fall asleep). Anywho, where was I… yes, waking up. So Simon’s downstairs and the first thing Liam does when he wakes up is run upstairs to come see me (read: wake me up) and he is so happy and tells me how good he slept. Shortly after that, Jack will wake up and Simon brings him upstairs and he says, “I wanna cuddle, mommy.” So we all get on the bed and have a happy little moment before starting our days. I love it.

How about a little FQF?

1. Do you think cursive writing is overrated? (Schools in Indiana have now voted to take teaching cursive writing out of their curriculum.)
Hmmm… yes and no (how’s that for committing to an answer?). Yes, because I rarely use it myself or when I do, I always end up blending in printing – like a hybrid handwriting. Plus, I hardly ever write things out longhand and doubt anyone in life is judging my lack of cursive writing (and if they are, well then they have other problems). But no, because it still is a form of communication and I think kids should know how to do it and be able to read it. I don’t want to end up having to read birthday cards to my boys when they are 8 because their grandma wrote in cursive.

2. Do you still use a pocket calendar or notepad or do you keep your info on your smart phone?
All of my meetings and events go straight to the smart phone and are synced with my computer’s calendar and Google calendar so I have access to the information from basically anywhere with an Internet connection. But I also make lists and those are all written out on paper (you know, aside from these lists).

3. What 3 things would you save if your house was burning down? (family & pets are already safe)
I’d normally say photos but almost everything we have is digital, including our wedding photos so instead I’d save our external drive which stores all those photos and all my portfolio of work. But I would save our camera bag because it has all our electronics in it – camera, flip video and iPod. I’d also save the two boxes of memorabilia I’ve kept of for the boys because you can’t replace their first drawings and handwriting samples (and even though there are two boxes, I’m counting them as one). If I could grab a 4th thing, I’d save the boys’ blankies – so at least they’d have one thing to comfort them when all else was ruined.

4. Country Mouse or City Mouse, err Person?
How about Suburbia Mouse™? I’d love to live in the city if I had the money to take cabs everywhere and live right downtown (I’m thinking Chicago). But I also love the expanse of the country, so long as mice and other critters stay away. So suburbia is great because it’s a blend of the two while leaning more toward the city.

5. If you could pick ANY reality show to go on, which would you pick?
International House Hunters because that would mean I was buying a house in another country (and in theory able to afford it). Though I promise not to be such a tool like most of the people on that show. The things they say just boggle my mind and I think it’s hilarious that the producers do nothing to edit it to make them look better. Instead they complain about the color of the walls, as if something that is easily changed is a huge deciding factor in a major home purchase or how far away it is from the beach (wah, wah).

I would have said Extreme Home Makeover since I would just get a brand new house, but I’m pretty sure you have to have something terrible happen to you or have made it through an awful hardship first and I don’t really want to wish that on myself.

I’m a little fixated on houses. I can tell you a that I would not want to be featured on Hoarders, Intervention or My Strange Addiction.

  1. i agree about the morning except i’m usually way more than you, and say shhhhhhhh, and tell them to go play. maybe i should try you’re route. sounds much more lovely. i bet simon would move to australia with you. 🙂

    • I should have noted, this is only a favorite thing on weekdays, if this were to happen on a saturday, I would not respond so nicely 🙂 Or at 5 am (which was the case for a while with Liam – then he was given strict instructions to NOT come upstairs and to turn on the TV).

  3. I would not want to be on any of them other shows either lol. That would be horrible 😦 I love watching things about houses too. I think I love dreaming lol

  4. I love your morning ritual – so sweet! And I love that you picked House Hunters. I love that show, especially the International one. Which country would you choose? I have been loving all the South American countries.

Have something to say about that? I'd love to hear from you!
