Music Monday: Random Play on iTunes

I have 5,485 songs loaded in iTunes, a handful are repeats but the bulk are unique. This means I could listen for 15.2 days (according to iTunes) and not repeat a song (you know, other than the repeats). That’s a bit of music. I decided to hit random play and see what the first ten songs were that iTunes picked for me to listen to (ironically, two of them were from David Gray which makes me think that iTunes isn’t so random with its music selection, or perhaps I have too many David Gray songs).

Day Tripper – The Beatles

The Look of Love – Diana Krall | I didn’t even remember that I had this album

The Promise – Tracy Chapman | Most everyone knows Fast Car (which is a great song) but this is my most favorite of her songs – so sweet and simple. Also, I’m pretty sure I heard this on an episode of Dawson’s Creek.

Wouldn’t It Be Nice – The Beach Boys | Another album I didn’t know I had.

Cover Me – Bebo Norman | The Christian artist who I totally dreamed of marrying until I met him and discovered that he had acrylic nails on his guitar-strumming hand (rather than using a pick) and was kind of squigged out by that. So I decided to let that dream go, which is completely why we aren’t married as I type this… uh huh.

Shine – David Gray | Though not this version, but an iTunes original version because I am the music lover who downloads special albums when they are from her favorite artist even though they are songs I already have from past albums. Must have all of the David Gray songs out there.

Starstruck – Lady Gaga | Whatever you think about her overall weirdness, her songs are great for working out (and I supposed dancing in clubs, but I don’t ever do that sort of thing).

The Nearness of You – Norah Jones | Here’s a little factoid for you: Norah Jones’ dad is Ravi Shankar, an Indian sitar player who befriended and influenced George Harrison from The Beatles because it is a very small world, after all.

Wurlitzer – David Gray | no comment

The Prowl – Dan Auerbach | I think this was one of the 1000 songs my nephew shared with me the last time we were in Texas – seems fitting that at least one of the ten came from him. 🙂

Instagram – week 16

Along with the blogging bandwagon, I’m also back in the Instagram bandwagon… gotta love that my children’s childhood will be documented with smartphone photos.

My little superheros at a superhero birthday party – so cute and such a fun idea! (Jack’s super serious face cracks me up)

Last weekend we went to my parents and during a walk with my dad and the boys, we happened upon a garage sale. The gems my kids found were knit wristbands…

My dad photobombed our self-portrait.

My nephew Andy (Liam’s doppleganger) came over for dinner and the kids had fun playing with him in the backyard – a 20-ish year age difference just doesn’t matter with these cousins 🙂

Even my dad got in on the wristband action…

A photo where you can actually see George’s face. Do you know how hard it is to photograph a black dog? About medium-high hard.

Liam said the sky looked like the ocean this morning – I’d agree.

Simon came home. We were happy and whole once again!

A rare moment of non-wackiness from Jack.

Liam likes to draw ninjas, Star Wars battles and alien invasions (shown above).

One of the boys of having boys is tricking them into dressing up like a girl when their father isn’t around to police me. I’m building up my arsenal of embarassing material in case they have girlfriends I don’t like that I will then show these photos to.

Five Question Friday

Simon’s home… happy day… back to business as usual on the bloggity blog, just in time for a little five question Friday! Whoot!
1. What is the funniest thing you saw on Facebook/twitter this week?
Like everyone else I’m a more than a little entertained by the someecards that are everywhere on the internets… the following three tickled my funny bone this week:

2. What is your favorite Olympic event?
I think swimming because while I want the Americans to win, it doesn’t stress me out like watching other sports I enjoy, like gymnastics. I almost can’t handle watching gymnastics because I’m constantly afraid they are going to screw up and my heart breaks for them when that happens. I just can’t handle the stress, I don’t know what that says about me, but it’s true.

3. Do your kids to chores around the house? If so, what are they and how old are the children? Do they get paid for them?
Ummm… nope. But they should. I mean, they clean up their toys and put things away in their rooms and help clear the table after meals but nothing concrete like cleaning toilets or mopping floors – though I totally intend to get them training in those two things as soon as I feel like I can trust them to not make a bigger mess that I will have to clean up after they cyclone through. My boys are nearly 6 and 3.5 and we also don’t do allowances yet. But when we do start a cleaning schedule and allowance, I don’t think we’ll tie the two together, but the chores will be an expectation for being a part of our family, not something I will reward them for doing.

4. If you get bad service/food do you complain or keep quiet?
I’m not one to make a big deal over things but I have sent bad gnocchi back before for tasting like flour. And I have rewarded bad service with a poor tip and not felt overly guilty about it. I have also complained to corporate headquarters when I have received bad products at chain restaurants and have gotten gift cards in response which ensures my return loyalty and is much appreciated. I don’t hesitate to share my negative (or positive) feedback when I feel it is especially merited.

5. If you could pick ONE frivolous item for your home, what would it be? (massive room sized closet? swimming pool? greenhouse? etc…)
If it was assumed that the upkeep and maintenance of said frivolous thing would not be my ongoing responsibility (i.e., cost a ridiculous amount of money – I would clean the thing), I would go with an indoor pool. I would love to be able to just jump in a pool at any time, any time of year. If I’m going to think pie-in-the-sky, I’m going to go big 🙂 Though I wouldn’t turn down a room-sized closet either. Or a three-stall garage. Or a chef’s kitchen.

Linking up with Mama M for Five Question Friday.

Rejoice

Simon comes home tonight. We are thrilled!

Thank you to everyone who helped make the last three weeks fly by – we are ever grateful and blessed. You have lightened our burden with your acts of kindness, words of comfort and prayers lifted up.

Rejoice.

Music Monday: Recent Downloads (again)

Back by popular no demand whatsoever… Music Monday. Hopefully at least one of you will find some new music to like/love… then my job here will be complete. Also, my music tastes are ALL over the board so there is a varied selection…

Magic | B.o.B. with Rivers Cuomo – While Jack’s favorite song is One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful, Liam favors this one. We switch back and forth between the two until I am sick of them and then I insist we listen to the satellite radio we are PAYING for.

Call Me Maybe | Carly Rae Jepsen – I’m not apologizing for liking this song, you know you like it, too. (I will apologize because I also downloaded Boyfriend by Justin Bieber, I realize for some of you this might kill my music cred, but I can’t help what I like and I know Stef will still love me.)

Payphone | Maroon 5 – Yup, my love for the band and Adam Levine continues. The link is to the clean version.

Lose Yourself | eminem – a little throw back in my music downloads, I’ve been finding songs that I’ve formerly liked but never added to my collection (I’ve also downloaded Shadow of the Day by Linkin Park, Snow [HeyOh] by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sweet Home Alabama by Lynyrd Skynyrd [most annoying band name to type])

Burn It Down | Linkin Park – I never thought I would like Linkin Park but I so do, there’s something about their music that just appeals to me. Anyone have a clue?

Watching You Watch Him | Eric Hutchinson – Peppy, poppy and oh so catchy.

Only Love | Ben Howard – Just listen.

Home | Phillip Phillips – I still can’t get over the fact that his parents named him this (I’m also not googling to find out if that is actually his name or just a stage name) but I quite like his voice and this song

Keep Your Eyes Open | NEEDTOBREATHE (the whole album, actually + Something Beautiful, The Outsiders and Lay ‘Em Down from The Outsiders album)
