Things I Love Thursday: Jack’s Hair

With the way his hair grows, my little Jackers was made for the 70s. And as long as he’ll let me, I’m leaving his hair with a shaggy cut because the cuteness is my drug. No buzz cuts for that boy – aside from his first haircut which traumatic for all involved: Continue reading

Happy Father’s Day…

For some reason I don’t have the reserves I need to make it through the week, as of right now I’m wiped out and it’s not quite midweek (technically it’s Tuesday night when I’m writing this). I’ve been dragging all day but hopefully a good night’s sleep will do the trick… or a giant cup of coffee (Starbucks’ Venti Iced Americano with Toffee Nut syrup, please – not for the faint of heart since it is four shots of espresso).

Father’s Day was packed… everyone was up early, the boys gave Simon his gifts (they made cards at daycare, plus the aforementioned DMB Caravan tickets) and I made cinnamon rolls. Then off to church, a quick stop at my office and lunch at Red Robin (yummm). Then we picked up two more kids for the rest of the day (babysitting in exchange for their watching our kids for our last date night). I don’t know that I can imagine having four children under five but it sure does make time go faster and I was super productive because they kept each other entertained, so it’s not too bad. I managed to make a batch of cheesecake bars,  do the dishes and empty the dishwasher while Simon was outside mowing the lawn (happy father’s day, sweetie) making myself more productive than when I have just my two kids.

The later afternoon was filled with fun outside, though the kids never really ran through the sprinkler, they just wanted to have it on for ambiance. They were happy climbing (the two-step) slide and flying into the pool, giving George drinks of water, running around the yard and chalking the sidewalk/house/deck.  Really, what more can you want in life?

Top Ten Celebrities I’d Like to Beat Up

  1. Miley Cyrus | She gained her fame based on her father’s own fleeting fame and she’s really just too stupid for anything good to come from her, plus, she’s a horrible singer… horrible.
  2. David Letterman | I think I’m supposed to love him, but he really bugs me because he’s often condescending to people and I just think he’s too smug for who he is.
  3. Flava Flav | I had to put him on this list for my husband’s benefit – he really hates that guy. I certainly don’t love him, so in a dream world, I’d beat him up, too.
  4. Donald Trump | I really think this needs no explanation.
  5. Peter Sarsgaard & Maggie Gyllenhaal | They are married actors and I saw them interviewed once on the red carpet, which is probably a really strange place to find yourself in life but I just thought they were so incredibly rude and hoity toity and while I could maybe give them the benefit of the doubt (strange situation), I feel like they were really being who they were and that’s just unnecessary. Don’t go into acting if you don’t want to deal with being interviewed on the red carpet and think you are above it all.
  6. Victoria Beckham | The woman just never smiles and perhaps it’s because she’s just very hungry, but would it kill her to even smirk?
  7. Kristen Stewart | The I-don’t-like-being-famous and I-don’t-understand-why-people-don’t-leave-me-alone routine is a little tiresome; then don’t audition to be in a movie that women ages 14 to 44 are going to want to see because you just might get the part (despite your lack of talent) and then you will become famous and people will not leave you alone.
  8. Ashton Kutcher | How can someone who is such a bad actor keep making movies? He needs to use his celebrity for doing other things than making Nikon commercials and going out with his wife.
  9. Scarlett Johansson | If she was stupid enough to divorce Ryan Reynolds, then really, she needs some sense knocked into her.
  10. Chris Brown | Because someone needs to.

Apparently I have something against stupid and/or egotistical celebrities.

Music Monday: DMB

So I finally got to give Simon his Father’s Day gift… tickets to the Sunday show of the Dave Matthews Band Caravan in Chicago. Faithful readers (all two of you) might remember when I first learned of the 3-day event and posted this. Well… it turns out they were selling single-day tickets for a reasonable price – $85 for 12 hours worth of music, that’s like less than minimum wage (of course, I have no idea what minimum wage actually is anymore). Simon brought up the idea of going and I immediately shot him down, saying we weren’t going to spend the money on tickets and a hotel room and I didn’t want to ask my parents to watch the boys, etc… he was slightly perturbed as he’s always wanted to see DMB (it’s what the cool people call them) and I’ve seen them before. Friday Evening Favorites

Pre-bedtime moments of bliss on a Friday night. The boys and I have a deal, as long as they are happy and quiet, they can stay up past their bedtime. (I do this with the hope that they will sleep in on Saturday – which they do, until the late, late time of 7:30.)

Liam and his handy LeapFrog TAG Reader – this is one of the best toys we have gotten from him. It really helped on our trip to Texas and now he learns a ton from these animal cards. Though he’s starting to resemble the kid from Jerry Maguire with the random facts he spouts, e.g., the mountain gorilla’s habitat is shrinking OR an anaconda is a snake that swims in water.
