Not as many pics this week – guess we were just living life instead of photographing it 🙂 Still, it was a darn good week… lots of visits with friends, work completed and fun times to be had! Our last week of summer vacation is currently happening and I am in denial!

image

My week in Instagram almost wouldn’t be complete if it didn’t include a shot of that church – but the sky was pretty photo-worthy with the big, puffy clouds and the sun streaming through.

image

The boys like to come upstairs first thing in the morning and hang out in our bed… George pretty much hates this while I pretty much love it. Too bad for George that he is the lowest on the family totem pole.

image

This is my view every morning as I back down the driveway… Jack’s head popped up in their bedroom window, waving until he can no longer see the car down the street. It’s equal parts sad and pathetic, but boy am I going to miss it when he stops doing this!

From across the parking lot, this license plate read like “666” which was mucho unfortunate so I had to take a photo. The devil drives a Montero.

Sandy’s shower was on Saturday and boy was it fun (click through for her recap)! Purple and coral decor (baby girl Hop’s bedding colors) and lots of inspiration from Pinterest. And my favorite thing (which sounds a little like bragging since I co-hosted the shower but it’s not because I said so) was the menu – all gluten free for my gluten-free friend (Sandy includes recipes in her blog post – the chive/goat cheese dip is scoop-directly-into-your-mouth delicious). Such a great day to celebrate our friend and her *surprise* baby girl!  And I love that I got to host with Steph, whose husband was endlessly amused by our ability to communicate without actually saying anything…
Me: Do you think the thing should go there?
Steph: Yeah, that’s what I was thinking… what about that, with the stuff?
Me: Oooh, good idea!
Craig: That’s just sad. [Editorial note: I’d argue that it’s not sad, but impressive that we were that in sync.]

No Music Monday this week, though I would recommend the following song (it’s an oldie but a goodie): Yellow | Coldplay

And now, my week in Instagram photos:
image
Olympics closing ceremonies, pretty much my favorite part was the Union Jack setup on the stadium floor, everything else was a bit… meh.

image
Every time George gets groomed, they put a scarf on him and this time I happened to be wearing a scarf as well… photo opportunity!

image
We’ve had some gorgeous sunsets this week and Tuesday evening we were treated to a real stunner the whole way home. Complete with a shot of my favorite photo subject.

image
The boys of summer, Sandy’s kids and mine at her youngest’s birthday party. We won’t talk of the multiple times Jack peed in her yard (without taking his swim trunks off) but instead remember how much fun was had.

image
Heidi had to run back in her house to grab something for me so she handed me Hutch through the driver’s side window – I would snuggle him all day – what a sweetie! Also, I might have been tempted to drive away with him if I didn’t already have my own cute boys.

image
Jack’s guitar playing technique might need a little fine-tuning.

Friday night we camped out in my friend Stef’s backyard with her family (Stef has a much better pic of the three of this but this is all my phone’s camera would do). Simon was not inclined to take my place after he got out of work at 11 p.m. (can you blame him) so the boys and I cozied up. The whole experience was super fun, despite the cold, cramped quarters and I would totally do it again. Our small group all got together for a cookout and smores earlier in the evening and since everything happened outside, I feel like I can mark camping off my list. Check!

The following was a text exchange between myself (outside in a tent, where it was so chilly I had to wear a hat on my head to keep warm) and Stef (inside, with her 3-month-old, nice and warm):
Me: I have a hard time believing it is 60 outside right now. That’s all I’m saying.
Stef: Obviously the person in charge of the android weather system isn’t sleeping inside a tent. And neither am I… bwah hah hah.
Me: I checked weather.com, too. Liars, all of them.
Stef: And whores.
Me: Dirty whores.

Jack has picked up a new habit of telling you things, but pausing first to raise his pointer finger up as if to say that whatever it is he’s about to tell you is a brilliant, new idea. Usually, it’s just that he’s hungry for Goldfish crackers.

image
We love hanging out with friends. Amy and I took our kiddos on a walking tour of downtown, mainly to visit the huge tire swing there but that visit was short-lived because Liam didn’t like it. Ugh. Don’t you hate it when you have something fun planned and your kids aren’t as into it as you would have hoped, but then they happily spent 30 minutes “painting” your deck with water and a foam brush.

Instagram, week 18

Not many photos this week… Hope yours has been wonderful!
image
My little owl, featured in a previous blog post, was part of Dooce’sDaily Chuck so I had to get a pic of it on my desk and on my computer screen… Guess we both purchase home decor accessories at Coldwater Creek.

image
It rained this week and I opted to protect my hair with a scarf but ended up channeling a grandma more than anything… That’s okay, at least my hair-drying work wasn’t wasted.

image
Jack has no trouble performing for the camera (though getting him to sit still to capture a clear image is more difficult, I have half a dozen or more of these in motion and blurry).

image
I didn’t know Liam knew how to do this with his hands until he showed me over the weekend so I had to capture it on film (but of course).

image
Jack enjoyed the frosting off this cupcake way more than he enjoyed the actual cake… And then he had the green *ahem* poop *ahem* to show for it.

Instagram, week 17

The good part about taking a long weekend/mini-vacation is that while Tuesday feels like a Monday, it’s not actually and suddenly your week is much shorter – hip hip hooray!

Time for a weekly recap using Instagram, warning, the end photos are all fun, sun and beach, do not keep viewing if it will make you angry because you are not having fun in the sun at the beach.
image
Somehow Jadyn and Jack determined that if they achieved potty-trained status, then they could have a Spoonlickers date – who am I to argue? I love fro yo and unlimited toppings (sometimes that’s the best part of a frozen treat, but I have to say, the cake batter fro yo doesn’t hurt).

image
Elijah Wood was on an episode of Yo Gabba Gabba and I was messing around with my phone and caught a scary image of him, had to share it with my peeps.

image
And another photo of the church domes on the way home – but the sun was just too big and red that day to not get one – sadly, the photos were all a bit blurry.

image
Jack found a headband and I got to get my hair done (can’t say the scary face was anyone’s fault but my own).

image
I waited in my car to get this photo because it is just so wrong to do that to a Mustang convertible.

image
Our first day at the beach Jack discovered the joy that is getting buried in the sand. He asked daily to get his “whole self buried up.” Okay.

image
Duck Lake State Park is just a special kind of place – so perfect for kids and kids-at-heart. The older kids were schooling the younger kids on proper sand castle building.

image
Max and Jax will be BFFs for life – this is what happens when your cousin is only a couple months younger than you (and though younger, Max is not surprisingly taller than Jack)

image
Pure Michigan

image
All fun in the sun means all naps in the car on the way home!

Instagram – week 16

Along with the blogging bandwagon, I’m also back in the Instagram bandwagon… gotta love that my children’s childhood will be documented with smartphone photos.
image
My little superheros at a superhero birthday party – so cute and such a fun idea! (Jack’s super serious face cracks me up)

image
Last weekend we went to my parents and during a walk with my dad and the boys, we happened upon a garage sale. The gems my kids found were knit wristbands…

image
My dad photobombed our self-portrait.

image
My nephew Andy (Liam’s doppleganger) came over for dinner and the kids had fun playing with him in the backyard – a 20-ish year age difference just doesn’t matter with these cousins 🙂

image
Even my dad got in on the wristband action…

image
A photo where you can actually see George’s face. Do you know how hard it is to photograph a black dog? About medium-high hard.

image
Liam said the sky looked like the ocean this morning – I’d agree.

image
Simon came home. We were happy and whole once again!

image
A rare moment of non-wackiness from Jack.

image
Liam likes to draw ninjas, Star Wars battles and alien invasions (shown above).

image
One of the boys of having boys is tricking them into dressing up like a girl when their father isn’t around to police me. I’m building up my arsenal of embarassing material in case they have girlfriends I don’t like that I will then show these photos to.
