Top Ten TV Shows I Have Loved

A new TV season is upon us and I love it but sometimes I miss my favorite shows that have gone on to TV heaven… in no particular order:

  1. Felicity | College me would have married Scott Speedman in a heartbeat (or Scott Foley – really, either one)
  2. Alias | My favorite spy girl, I kind of wanted to be Sydney Bristow when I grew up
  3. Dawson’s Creek | I was team Pacey all the way
  4. The West Wing | Understanding this show always made me feel smart and once my co-worker and I had a pedi-conference around our office and then we squealed with delight over our parallel to the show (TV nerds unite!)
  5. Friends | Thursday night will never be the same – I still miss the college days, all hanging out in our room watching that show
  6. ER | Another Thursday night special; I still remember Carter getting stabbed, Mark Green getting beat up in the bathroom and Romano getting hit by the helicopter – talk about a tough workplace
  7. Family Ties | This family always made me jealous of my friends who had siblings close in age
  8. Growing Pains | Then I watched this show and was thankful for my pseudo only-child upbringing
  9. Cheers | One of the first shows I watched with my parents and could appreciate (more or less)
  10. Alley McBeal | Quirky and fun + random song breaks = good times

Our Weekend in Ten Photos*

Liam spent the weekend at his first Spartan football game, joining the older boys for their annual football weekend – he thought the game was “super!” Ironically, he spent a great deal of time watching the game by lying on the cement underneath the bleachers and playing Angry Birds on Simon’s phone. But despite his lack of interest in the game, he had a great time with the boys!

While Liam was being indoctrinated into the life of a Spartan fan (it’s all heartache, just when you think it’s going to be great), Jack and I hung out with my mom, my SIL Joan and my nephew of the great- variety, Max.

We walked around a local arboretum in the morning. Stopping to feed the fish some bread and get some lovin’.

We also spotted wildlife: some wild turkeys at the entrance (no photo) and a doe and a fawn just waking up for the day much to Max’s great delight since he was asking for deer the whole time we were there. I felt like a magician to be able to point them out to him. He then chased them down the path and would have followed them into the woods had Joan not caught him.

The boys were very interested in a caterpillar we found on the path.

Though Max was more daring and would actually touch it, while Jack preferred to admire it at a safe distance (you can never be too careful; this care for things stops at touching caterpillars since he has no qualms about eating boogers and drinking bath water – two GROSS things he absolutely delights in to my horror.).

Joan and Max took a side trip to the library while mom, Jack and I checked out a local art fair. After naptime we rejoined for more fun (a.k.a., general trouble-making and wrestling by the small crowd).

Sunday we went to church and played outside until the big boys came home. Jack was a little sad to say goodbye to the life of an only child. It was fun while it lasted. He reverted to his usual second-child mentality within minutes of Liam’s return.

And then we spent the next 3.5 hours in the car for the 1-hour trip back home. Nope, nothing’s wrong with my math, it was a LONG trip – finding us traveling 2 miles in 60 minutes. I took the photo below while we were sitting on the highway, going nowhere real fast. There was apparently an accident that resulted in a fatality and we were diverted off the highway.

Hope everyone else had a great weekend, too!

*Smaller photo groupings count as one photo; using that thought, this totally counts as 10 photos.

Top Ten Things I Love About Fall

Source: brightboldbeautiful.blogspot.com via Erin on Pinterest

In no particular order, the things I love about fall:
1. Apple orchards
2. Donuts at apple orchards
3. Cider made with apples from the apple orchard.
4. Wearing jeans and sweatshirts.
5. Leaves turning color. God’s quite the show off in the autumn (at least here in Michigan).
6. Crisp, cool mornings and evenings – void of humidity (a.k.a., the bane of my existence)
7. Making things from apples at the apple orchard.
8. The general feeling of excitement about back-to-school and starting new things.
9. Work is usually busier and carries us through to Christmas – I like this because busy work = year-end bonus! And who doesn’t like money (I use it wisely and generously, never you fear).
10. ArtPrize, Fallsburg Fall Festival and Saturday mornings at the farmer’s market picking up squash and apples.

What do you love about fall?

Top Ten Things I Use Every Day

I think we are all creatures of habit – I cannot think of anyone I know who does things different all the time (not to say that people aren’t adaptable, but given normal circumstances, I think people operate predictably and that’s okay). I was thinking about things I use every day and thought – this would be a great top ten list! I do hope you enjoy a little glimpse into my monotony.

Top Ten Things I Use Every Day:

  1. The shower – I cannot start a day without a shower, even if I’ve just taken one before I went to bed. I have not been and never will be an evening showerer. Mostly because I like fresh hair each day and because I hate that sticky skin feeling you get after sleeping. There are occasional Saturdays when I don’t shower all day but they are very rare.
  2. Google – I love to look up things on the Internet and believe you can almost always find an answer on the Internet (unless you are looking for something too vague like cake, in which case, you’ll find my blog). Here are some things I’ve recently Googled: “97% honeysuckle white recall,” “egg free chocolate cake,” ” goat cheese fondue” and “arden myrin hanes.” [I also love that Google has become a verb and I accept that.]
  3. One of our vehicles – we almost always leave the house every day; more than once.
  4. My angry mom voice – though Liam has been asking me to stop using it, which I tell him I will do when he starts listening better because he doesn’t respond to my nice mom voice.
  5. The toilet – it had to be said.
  6. My smartiephone – I recently got a new one (Droid platform, HTC Inspire) and I kind of love it. I had a Droid before but there have been improvements and I’m more than okay with that. I can never go back toa dumb phone, sad, but true.
  7. Google Reader – to keep up with all my bloggity blogs (for those keeping track, the number of unread blogs soared to close to 800 before slowly going back down – riveting stuff, I know)
  8. Plastic plates and bowls from the Target dollar spot – I just can’t pass them up when they get news ones so we have an assortment of Ironman, Hot Wheels, Dr. Seuss and Spiderman that I use every meal to serve up food to the boy-os.
  9. Stainless steel water bottles – I have two, one is always in the fridge, getting water chilled for when I empty the one in my hand. They are 22 ounces so each time I go through one that’s almost 3 glasses of water – helps me hit my 8-glass-per-day target with ease.
  10. Bribes for good behavior – I am not such a stellar parent that my kids always immediately obey me (or even slowly obey me) and I honestly don’t know that I’d ever have the energy or ability to get that to happen but bribes often get the job done, horrible parenting tactic or not. Fruit snacks, television time, special outings, smoothies, extra minutes at bedtime, Lego time, Wii time, Wiggles time – whatever it takes – I’ll use it.

Top Ten Amusing Search Terms That Led to My Blog

One of my favorite bloggers posts from time to time listing some amusing search terms that have led to her site. While I don’t have a ton of traffic rolling into my site (or even a few pounds of traffic), there have been a number of search terms that I find amusing in one way or another.

For your enjoyment:

  1. vomit queasy bowl | dear whoever used this search term, I’m so sorry.
  2. my teacher washed my hair in the sink I hope it wasn’t because a bird pooped on your head, too, but I’m not sure there could be a good reason for that to happen.
  3. in love with chick fil a | I completely understand and I believe it’s one of the great tragedies of my life that there are not Chick Fil A’s in Michigan. But FYI, I hear that Chick Fil A is extremely non-committal so you might want to explore other options for love.
  4. that would be bad | indeed, it would be bad (also, I might use that phrase a little too much)
  5. secret regrets june | that’s awfully specific and P.S. you probably won’t have much luck if they are secret regrets
  6. met you at lollapalooza 2011 + shoulders | clearly this searcher was looking for their soul mate, it has all the makings of a timeless love story
  7. its friday | you had to google that?
  8. baby bungee cord/baby bungy cord/baby bungie cord (all three spellings) | someone certainly is persistent
  9. roll ’em ferndock (various spellings) | again with the multiple spellings, but this time for such an uncommon phrase – dad, is that you?
  10. cake | Of all the possibilities for this single, common word, someone came to my site by searching for cake; that makes my day. And now I want some cake.
